Ezmerelda d’Avenir, a Vistana, and apparent protege of Rudolph van Richten. She encountered the group after they had arrived at Argynvostholt.

She didn’t specify what her mission was, but she did show interest in knowing van Richten’s whereabouts. Although the group refused to name the old hunter’s location, they found Ezmerelda had arrived at van Richten’s tower ahead of them.

They found the Vistana and old man in heated argument, but they soon set aside their anger and reconciled. Many of the details remain a mystery, but it is clear that they treat each other as mentor and student, perhaps even father and daughter. They are both determined to hunt down and destroy the evil demon Strahd.
